An Ode to Paddy
By Carol Sanderson
Its a big day today at Silver Sands
We've a member of staff retiring
Our Paddy has decided to call it a day
Giving up the caravan hiring
You'll now have time to relax
Not bothering about matters weighty
We wish you well with your darts
With lots of ‘hundred and eighty'!
And then there is your dancing
With ladies all in a line
Get yourself a couple of vodkas
And you'll be doing just fine
You'll have plenty time for yourself
Now you're a lady of leisure
More time with the grandchildren
Who give you so much pleasure
And so Paddy we'll raise a glass
To wish you all the very best
Enjoy a well earned retirement
From Green Parcs and their guests

Book your front seats at Silver Sands Leisure Park
Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic is assessing the possibility of launching commercial space journeys from RAF Lossiemouth as early as 2010. The president of Virgin Galactic, Will Whitehorn, is making "an informal visit to the Moray base." Virgin Galactic is investing $220m in a six-passenger craft called SpaceShipTwo.

Good News...
Site licence term to increase from 10 years to 15 years
After careful consultation The Directors of Green Parcs limited have decided to increase the term of tenure of caravan holiday homes at Silver Sands to fifteen years from date of manufacture. Deepak Johar director of Green Parcs Limited commented that "Caravans are now so well built and last longer and include double glazing, central heating and extra insulation that we feel that the ten year tenure agreement has had its day."
Once again Silver Sands is leading the way in the caravan holiday homes sector and Green Parcs limited are looking at other areas of standard setting such as introducing a luxury letting hire fleet with even the basic range being double glazed and centrally heated.

The Myths of Site Fees
There has been much debate about the increase of site fees and how they increased dramatically when Green Parcs took over. I would like to put this one to rest once and for all.
The site fees for the ‘D' Grade in 2007 where £1,324.34 for a seven month season, Green Parcs increased them to £2,280.62 in 2008 for an eleven month season. This equates to an increase of £18.14 per month which is less than 10% in real terms.
As an example from another company, Parkdean, who's local parks include Grannie's and Lochloy. Their cheapest pitch fee is £2,350 which equates to £69.30 more than our highest site fees and this is for an eight month season. Also their local authority rates are £240 for the season where as ours are £141.07 (season 2008 figures)
Another misconceived subject is what do the site fees cover?
Basically they cover the overheads of running the park. These include wages, maintenance, refuse collection, administration, consumables, utilities, roads and street lighting to name a few. They do not cover the main complex facilities or future development on the park, this comes from reinvested profits from caravan and lodge sales.
I hope this lays to rest this old demon and let's look forward to a prosperous new 2010 season.

Essential Maintenance
Our ground staff require to carry out essential maintenance work for Health and Safety requirements within the coming months. As the park is now open eleven months we will have to carry out this work out while we are open which may cause disruption to patrons and tenants on the park.
We will endeavor to give as much notice as possible, but much of the work is weather dependant, therefore please visit this site for regular updates.
The first of these disruptions is for the relocation of an electric box from the beer garden to the side of the main complex. We require the power to be off for six-eight hours. At present no day has been set aside and this work and is dependant on dry weather for at least twenty four hours. I will keep you posted on this space as to which day it will be in the coming weeks.
